                 INTERNATIONAL AFRICAN ECONOMIC SUMMIT

The International African Economic Summit has been temporarily put on hold. The SADC Ambassador has schedule conflict. He will be back in the country on July 8, 2011. He feels it necessary to be there and has asked us to reschedule. When he gets back in country he will share a couple of dates that fit his schedule and we will move forward accordingly.

                   Michelle Obama’s A-HA Moment

The lessons of history have a way of repeating themselves. The lessons come with different facts but teach the same lesson. Let me tell you of that which I speak. In 1967 Muhammad Ali refused to enlist in the United States military. 1967 was the height of the Vietnam War. The civil rights struggle was in full swing. Muhammad was known to talk plenty trash. Many whites started calling him The Louisville Lip. To black people struggling for our freedom he was the “Greatest.”  Muhammad, who was born as Cassius Clay, and was whipping any heavy weight boxer that got into the ring with him, and because of his finding of his African roots in 1964 he changed his name to Muhammad Ali. In 1965 he had a heavyweight title fight against Floyd Patterson. Patterson was seen as the white man’s Negro because he would not accept that Muhammad had changed his name. Patterson spoke of our African roots as being nonsense. Patterson was an all American boy. In the ring Muhammad punished him unmercifully. http://video.search.yahoo.com/video/play?p=floyd%20patterson&tnr=21&vid=995475456704&l=177&turl=http%3A%2F%2Fts1.mm.bing.net%2Fvideos%2Fthumbnail.aspx%3Fq%3D995475456704%26id%3D4f458077b1464d3c021fa8f518589d09%26bid%3DWGTqjqX577CChQ%26bn%3DThumb%26url%3Dhttp%253a%252f%252fwww.youtube.com%252fwatch%253fv%253dxlNwujdeZQE&rurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DxlNwujdeZQE&sigr=11ak2tm8q&newfp=1&tit=Muhammad+Ali+vs.+Floyd+Patterson He kept asking Patterson, “what’s my name” after hitting him upside the head. Muhammad punished Patterson for twelve (12) rounds. Toward the end of the 12th round  the referee declared the fight a technical knockout. Muhammad had beaten Patterson into submission. At the post fight interview Patterson acknowledged Muhammad as Muhammad.  Black people across the world rejoiced and took pride in our African prince being victorious of our slave produced past. So when it came time for Muhammad to fight for America in Vietnam he refused. Muhammad let the world know that no Vietnamese had ever called him a “nigga.” Muhammad understood that he should not be fighting the white man’s war. The authorities in Indianapolis want specifically black male youth to obey the law. I support all people to obey the law. But how can you expect young people to obey the law when adults, who happen to be police, beat Brandon Johnson, the young man pictured below who was beat by three police officers when the prosecutor concluded he committed no crime.

How can I or anyone else tell youngsters to obey the law when police are not held accountable by the law. Not a one of the police officers that beat Brandon was charged with a crime. Let me get back to Muhammad and Michelle.

Because Muhammad would not go and fight for America he was convicted in a court of law and stripped of his heavyweight title, and not allowed to fight professionally. Now let’s fast forward to 1970. Jimmy Carter, the governor of Georgia, agrees to let Muhammad fight. Muhammad’s opponent was Jerry Quarry, who was known as the great white hope. Muhammad true to form whipped Quarry unmercifully and displayed to the world again that the hope for sustaining the fallacy of white supremacy was not so great. Again let’s fast forward to 1977. Jimmy Carter is elected President of the United States of America. Russia has been chosen to be the host of the 1980 Olympics. In approximately 1978 Russia invades Afghanistan. Carter views this invasion as counter to American quest for world domination. To make his point Carter calls for the world to boycott the Olympics. African countries refuse. During the African revolutions for independence Russia had been supportive while America had been complicit in keeping black subjected to white domination. Carter called in the 1970 favor that allowed Muhammad to get back into the fight game. Because of his accomplishments and political statements, Muhammad was probably the most popular black man in the world. He went on the mission for Carter to ask the African governments to support Carter’s desire to boycott the Olympics because Russia, the host, had invaded Afghanistan. When Muhammad found out that Tanzania President Julius Nyere, and a host of other African presidents would not see him he began to understand that he had lost his way. "If I'm to be looked at as an Uncle Tom or a traitor or someone against my black brothers, I want out 'cause that's not my purpose."  For black people in Indianapolis to support a slave image as the art that will represent black contribution to the history of Indianapolis is to sell out black people. Again I digress. Let me stick with history repeating itself on Michelle’s visit to Africa.

Muhammad held a press conference with the international press to say that his mission was against the interests of black people. He apologized to all black people and said that he had made a mistake. He had an A-HA moment. Now watch this. I take the position that Muhammad’s moment will repeat itself with Michelle and her children.

Michelle’s trip to Africa has already generated controversy. President Obama has authorized the bombing of Libya and the Ivory Coast. He also has extended the sanctions against Zimbabwe to include the recently found diamonds. All three of these U.S. policies are actually causing death among African people. Just as Muhammad Ali’s eyes were opened I predict so will Michelle’s eye be. As black people across the board we have got to quit killing each other. That goes for the young brother on the streets as well as President Obama who sits in the White House suite. These are very interesting times for black people around the world. We are on the verge of taking our rightful place in the world order of things. Because of America’s policy in Libya and on the African continent the African Union is threatening to withdraw its membership from the United Nations. The move by the A.U. is sending the message to President Obama and the world that just because a black man is now the President of the U.S. that that is not reason for black people to accept America’s oppression. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNLqQ2cN-PA&feature=share I predict that during Michelle’s trip to Africa that history will repeat itself and she will find her way as did Muhammad. Time will tell. If she resists then the struggle for our liberation will continue and we will better know who has to be included as the enemy. Thank you for listening to AjabuSpeaks!!
