Tavis Smiley, North Korea, American Independence & Zimbabwe
Senator Evan Bayh:
Tavis Smiley, North Korea, American Independence & Zimbabwe
Thursday, July 2, 2009 several leaders across the state of Indiana met with Senator Evan Bayh, who is the state’s Jr. Senator. At this meeting several people came to me to express their agreement with Melissa Harris-Lacewell and her opinion that Tavis was trying to hold President Obama to a race agenda. They were at the screening of Tavis’ movie “Stand”, which is a very good movie that needs minor technical adjustments. They heard Tavis say in reference to Dr Lacewell’s article that she was “insignificant” and that all he wanted Senator Obama to do was tell the truth even if it cost him the election. When Tavis was an ardent supporter of Hillary Clinton his position just sounds so disingenuous. Tavis we see through you like we see through Dawn. Your self serving position is really poorly hid by your eloquent rhetoric. We all should hold President Obama accountable to do the right thing. We must hold you accountable to do the right thing. Yes, even I must be held accountable. However, don’t take a position that is disingenuous because it will serve your self interest to be the HNIC. For those who know what I just said, y’all forgive me.
Also at this meeting I had the opportunity to ask Senator Bayh to champion changing U.S. policy toward Zimbabwe. Presently U.S. foreign policy imposes sanctions upon the nation of Zimbabwe. These sanctions are very instrumental in causing the death of innocent men, women and children by starvation. U.S. policy intentionally is starving these people because it does not like the people who presently run the government. Any policy that will intentionally cause innocent men, women and children to starve in order to affect a regime change is a poor policy. President Obama is really iffy on changing this policy. Sen. Bayh noted that both North Korea and Iran are rattling military sabers at the U.S. Yet our foreign policy has not implemented sanctions against either of these countries. North Korea has even had the nerve to fire nuclear rockets on July 4th as a clear signal to President Obama and the United States that they don’t care that U.S. policy opposes them having nuclear weapons capability. Zimbabwe is of no military threat to the United States. Military threats to the United States are not even in the rhetoric of the Zimbabwean government. Killing Zimbabwe’s innocent men, women and children is a tragic position, and in Senator Bayh’s words, just not the right thing to do.
There is a resolution that is circulating around the House of Representatives. I have changed it so that it reflects a more humane position in the policy. I am asking all God fearing people to write your Senators and congress people to support HR 238 in the redacted form below. For people from Indiana Congressman Andre Carson has indicated that he is willing to champion a change of policy on the House side. His Washington DC office number is 202-225-4011. You can email him at jarnell.craig@mail.house.gov
Brent Evan Wake will be coordinating this effort for Senator Bayh. You can reach him at 260-426-3151 or Brent_Wake@bayh.senate.gov Please ask them to support HR 238 in the form that is pasted below. I pray that God continues to order our steps. Thank you for listening to AjabuSpeaks.

HRES 238 IH
111th CONGRESS
1st Session
H. RES. 238
Recognizing the threat to international security and basic human dignity posed by the catastrophic decline of economic, humanitarian, and human rights conditions in the Republic of Zimbabwe.
IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
March 12, 2009
Ms. ROS-LEHTINEN (for herself, Mr. ROYCE, Mr. SMITH of New Jersey, Mr. MCCOTTER, Mr. BURTON of Indiana, Mr. ROHRABACHER, Mr. FLAKE, Mr. INGLIS, Mr. BILIRAKIS, and Mr. WOLF) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the Committee on Foreign Affairs
RESOLUTION
Recognizing the threat to international security and basic human dignity posed by the catastrophic decline of economic, humanitarian, and human rights conditions in the Republic of Zimbabwe.
Whereas a number of circumstances have contributed directly to the collapse of the Republic of Zimbabwe's economy, public health care, and education systems, and other basic social services;
Whereas water treatment and delivery have dramatically declined, and many other basic social services, such as trash collection, have effectively ceased in urban areas, posing significant health risks due to poor sanitation;
Whereas, with the unemployment rate at 94 percent and with food and fuel in short supply, Zimbabweans now contend with widespread malnutrition rates and outbreaks of infectious diseases;
Whereas according to the World Food Program, almost three quarters of the population, nearly 7,000,000 people, will require emergency food aid in the coming months;
Whereas, in a country that was once heralded as the breadbasket of Africa, a higher percentage of its citizens now rely on food aid than in any other country in the world;
Whereas, with limited access to food, health care, clean water and basic sanitation, life expectancy in Zimbabwe has fallen from 62 years in 1990 to just 34 years today;
Whereas as a result of the political and economic crisis, and subsequent flight of trained health professionals, public hospitals and clinics throughout the country have been forced to close their doors, leaving most Zimbabweans with little to no access to health care;
Whereas Zimbabwe has one of the highest HIV prevalence rates in the world;
Whereas HIV clinics in Zimbabwe increasingly have had limited-to-no access to test kits, blood sample kits, and drugs to treat opportunistic infections, and high malnutrition rates have rendered many suffering from AIDS unable to take the necessary antiretroviral medications;
Whereas, as a direct result of the collapse of Zimbabwe's health and sanitation services, the country is in the middle of a nationwide cholera epidemic, with over 89,000 cases reported and over 4,000 dead;
Whereas the spreading of this disease was preventable and has since become a regional problem, with cases reported in all of Zimbabwe's neighboring countries; and
Whereas, in addition to cholera, HIV/AIDS, and tuberculosis, Zimbabwe's crumbling health infrastructure is now also challenged by the emergence of several hundred human cases of anthrax, which were reportedly contracted as a result of starving Zimbabweans eating carrion, or dead and putrefying animals: Now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the House of Representatives--
(1) recognizes the threat to international security and basic human dignity posed by the catastrophic decline of economic, humanitarian, and human rights conditions in the Republic of Zimbabwe;
(2) deplores the current crisis and untold suffering which is upon the people of Zimbabwe;
(3) urges all responsible nations to join the United States in providing urgently needed humanitarian relief to the Zimbabwean people, as necessary and appropriate, with a particular emphasis on food, clean water, and basic sanitation, in an effort to ameliorate the ongoing humanitarian emergency and confront the cholera epidemic which now poses a transnational threat;
(4)requests that nongovernmental organizations engaged in humanitarian relief activities be given sufficient space to operate; and
(5)request that all political prisoners be released immediately and all spurious charges unjustly leveled against them be dropped.
(6) and demands that the sanctions upon Zimbabwe be immediately lifted so this tragic situation can be resolved as soon as possible.

Dawn,
I pray that you receive what you suggest for us as a people. Is that retribution? If so, then why don't you want for you and your family what you want for us? If you don't want for yourself and your family what you want for us then change what you want for us. You need to understand that no person of African descent would want what you have written that you want for us. We can forgive, But it is not in our interest to forget. We must continue to let you and your people know the pain that was and to some degree still is being inflicted on us just because of our God given color.
Interesting I was just at a workshop for domestic violence held at Methodist Hospital. The lady conducting the made the statement physical wounds experienced from domestic violence will heal. However the emotional scars will never heal. I reminded her that if we took that position as a race then we would be angry at every white person who has harmed or benefitted from the racism of our people. Dawn, you must hear me. We as a people want to forgive your people for what they have done, are doing. However, we can not forgive if the benefactor of this white supremacy says that was the past. You need to move on. In essence, let's act like white people did not historically harm Black people. That position tends to erase a people's will to forgive. You should really know what your words are doing. If this is your intent then you are accomplishing your mission. If not, then quit it! If you are the Christian that you want us to believe that you are, then you will humble yourself so that we all can get along. Your response will reveal plenty. God bless.
Hater/ By Maya Angelou
A hater is someone who is jealous and envious and spends all their time trying to make you look small so they can look tall.
They are very negative people to say the least. Nothing is ever good enough!
When you make your mark, you will always attract some haters...
That's why you have to be careful with whom you share your blessings and your dreams, because some folk can't handle seeing you blessed...
It's dangerous to be like somebody else... If God wanted you to be like somebody else, He would have given you what He gave them! Right?
You never know what people have gone through to get what they have...
The problem I have with haters is that they see my glory, but they don't know my story...
If the grass looks greener on the other side of the fence, you can rest assured that the water bill is higher there too!
We've all got some haters among us!
Some people envy you because you can:
a) Have a relationship with God
b) Light up a room when you walk in
c) Start your own business
d) Tell a man / woman to hit the curb
(if he / she isn't about the right thing)
e) Raise your children without both parents being
in the home
Haters can't stand to see you happy.
Haters will never want to see you succeed.
Most of our haters are people who are supposed to be
on our side.
How do you handle your undercover haters?
You can handle these haters by:
1. Knowing who you are & who your true friends are
*(VERY IMPORTANT!!)
2. Having a purpose to your life: Purpose does not mean having a job. You can have a job and still be unfulfilled.
A purpose is having a clear sense of what God has called you to be.
Your purpose is not defined by what others think about you.
3. By remembering what you have is by divine
prerogative and not human manipulation.
Fulfill your dreams! You only have one life to live...when its your time to leave this earth, you 'want' to be able to say, 'I've lived my life and fulfilled 'my' dreams,... Now I'm ready to go HOME!
When God gives you favor, you can tell your haters, 'Don't look at me...Look at Who is in charge of me...'
Pass this to all of your family & friends who you know are not hating on you including the person who sent it to you.
If you don't get it back, maybe you called somebody out! Don't worry about it, it's not your problem, it's theirs..
Just pray for them, that their life can be as fulfilled as
yours! Watch out for Haters...BUT most of all don't become a HATER!
'A woman's heart should be so hidden in Christ that a man
should have to seek Him first to find her.'

Dawn,
I hope you really understand Maya's words. God bless.

That is precisely what we are trying to get you to see,that people with bad behavior need someone who can boldly attack and shine a light on that behavior. Do you read the newspapers and see the news on television? We have over 2 million men in jails in America and the majority are people of color. And the majority of prisoners who were found to be innocent are majority Black.Have you ever heard of the many unarmed Black men who have been killed by police in many cities. I wish you can see the cases of judges sending Blacks to prison for a crime that Whites go free or get a slap on the wrist.
Just because we point out bad behavior by those in authority in America does not mean we hate anybody. We want to be bold and shine the bright light on the violators so that good Christians like yourself will help us stop the carnage and the injustices.
We on this blog are behaving like your mother the "bold teacher," who protest loudly the racist injustices that take place all over America even in Indiana.
I am using your own words to restate what I know I have been saying on this blog. I have been literally screaming with protests of the injustices and inequities that I see as a former 14 year NAACP president in a Southern town.
I think you unknowingly agreed with Reverend's and my case about the ugly racism that did not stop when Slavery ended in America. As victims who are currently subject to the ugliness of unfair practices by those in power, we [Reverend and I]are saying the same thing you said in your last statement on this blog.
What took you so long. Peace be unto you!!!

Hummm. Dawn you have fell silent. My software lets me know that you haved visited the website but you feel it unnecessary to respond. Hummm. Isn't that interesting.
On your last post you talked about the young black children being refused to swim in the pool at the private club. You reveal that you have been a member of several private clubs and thought it odd that outsiders would be invited in. In essence, we hear you saying that Black children should not have been allowed to be with the children of the elite. We weren't allowed in the private clubs of which you were a member. Hummm. This is the mess that we as Black people cannot forget.
That woman at the domestic violence workshop had a point about those emotional scars. Even when we want to let the past be the past, your people won't let us. And when we look at it, it was again a white man who did not want the Black children in the pool. Another white man felt that Black children being in the pool would change the complexion of the pool. As if our skin color would come off and taint the pool. How much more silly can white men be?
Oh, let me remind you that the children had a contract and paid more than a thousand dollars a piece to have access to that pool. We, as Black parents would be remiss, and not be preparing our children for the real world if we taught them that racism and white supremacy still does not effect decisions to this day. To tell our children that the effects of racism did not exist would be to lie to them. That little Black boy crying because he thought the type of behavior that he just experienced was a relic of the past just broke my heart. If you are not careful that little boy's pain will turn to anger, especially as he continues to experience racism thay you tell us that's not there. Forget about it. That is in the past. Move on.
Dawn, I am telling you as a Christian, you must be careful of your words. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Black people are not beyond erupting. Everyone has limits. The country does not need to be provoked to having people in the streets like we see now in Iran and China. This economy has everyone, Black and white, on edge. The country does not need racial strife fueled by economic depression spilling over into the streets of America. We have a Black President. We are elated and were psychologically uplifted. However, we know his election did not erase racism in America. What happened in Phylly is one of many incidents that made national news.
This is why it is so ignorant and stupid for Rush Limbaugh and his small crew of congressional people (white males) to get upset when Judge Sotomayor says that as a Latina she could make better decisions than white men. You did see where Ruth Bader Ginsberg agreed with Judge Sotomayor didn't you? The situation in Philly continues to confirm the fact. Oh, by the way, your silence speaks volumes also. I pray that your silence is by your choice and that God has not seen reason to silence you. I pray that God will order your steps. Although Paul teaches that we won't be held accountable for our actions, our faith is enough, you better believe that one day we all will have to account. God bless.
In The Souls of Black Folk, W.E.B. DuBois suggested that the question white people so often want to ask black people is, "How does it feel to be a problem?" This program turns the tables and recognizes some simple facts: Race problems have their roots in a system of white supremacy. White people invented white supremacy. Therefore, the color of the race problem is white. White people are the problem. White people have to ask ourselves: How does it feel to be a problem?
Following the ideas in his book The Heart of Whiteness, Jensen argues that -- even decades after the significant achievements of the civil-rights movement and with an African-American president -- it is still appropriate to describe the United States as a white-supremacist society, in terms of how we think and how we live.
