President Obama, Israel, Africans & Racism
President Obama, Israel, Africans & Racism
President Obama has been so busy that it is hard to keep up with him. The news reports that his administration was feverishly discussing whether the United States should have a presence at the United Nations Racism Conference being held in Geneva, Australia. They regrettably decided not to attend because they felt that Israel’s settling of Palestine was being unfairly singled out. It is very interesting that President Obama’s administration chose to look out for the interests of Israel over the objections of the Congressional Black Caucus. This is a tough question but it must be asked. I want to ponder how does President Obama work his way through this diplomatic mine field? Let me take a stab.
It appears that President Obama does not want to acknowledge most of the world’s opinion that the Jewish acquisition in 1948 of land occupied by Palestinians was based on racism. When I use the term racism I am defining it as one human group discriminating against another human group because the one group feels superior by birth over the other group. In other words, for example, the Jews feel they were born superior to the Palestinians so anything that they would do to the Palestinians is alright because of Jewish superiority. This is just an example. I am not saying that racism was the underlying foundation on why Jews decided to forcibly occupy land that Palestinians had traditionally occupied. When Jewish leadership was discussing places to establish a homeland they contemplated Uganda as well as Palestine. They settled on Palestine because the Bible could be used as a tool to justify their aggression. They co-opted the story of Genesis and Exodus as though they were the people of Moses and Palestine was the land promised to them by God as they were freed from bondage in Egypt. Uganda just did not lend itself to this story line. So we see that the issue was not race, but which piece of land could best be used to sway public opinion to support the establishment of a Jewish homeland. Therefore, the question for me is not the term used to identify the wrong. Wrong by any name is a wrong. Let’s muddy the water just a bit.
When Hitler was burning these same Jews in furnaces if President Obama was then President would he boycott a United Nations Conference on racism because the conference singled out Germany? In fact, would the Jewish people whose family and friends were being burned in the furnaces care what name was being given to the wrong that Hitler was bestowing upon their people? I would think not!! I would think the position would be I don’t care what you call the wrong, just do what you can to stop the wrong. Now in my understanding of history, Hitler clearly believed that Germans were superior to Jews so anything thing was fair to be done to the Jews because of German superiority. I am sure that Jewish control of the German economy greatly figured in on Hitler’s decision to try and annihilate the German Jewish population, but that was not the justification that he used to wage his domestic war. Hitler used white German supremacy as the tool to get the German populace to support his genocide. Again I ask, if this were taking place today would President Obama or present day Israel want the world to boycott the United Nations on Racism because Germany was singled out? OK, let’s widen the discussion.
Truly when Britons, or the Dutch, followed Cecil Rhodes to forcibly settle present day Zimbabwe it was a white supremacy philosophy that was used to justify the oppression of the Zimbabwean people. Ian Smith used the same white supremacy philosophy to forcibly occupy present day South Africa. At that time of this history I do not think that either Zimbabwean or South African people would have demanded that their oppressors’ philosophy be called racism before they would accept help from the outside world. Who cares about language if you allow the wrong to continue? The key is not the use of language. The key is stopping the oppressive behavior!! Even right now an argument can be made that the sanctions against Zimbabwe that are supported by the United States government and Britain is an act of racism. I am sure that both governments would vehemently contest being called racist. OK, let’s grant that wish. Let’s grant that the policies of Israel toward the Palestinians, and the U.S. and British policies toward Zimbabwe are not racist. Let’s grant that. However, I would now use the language is these policies fair? Are these policies right? Is it right for Israel, or any country to take somebody’s land because they can? Was it right for white people to take the very land that is now America from the indigenous people who occupied the land? Was it right for whites to take the land of South Africa and Zimbabwe because they could? Forget the term racism. Let’s deal with right and wrong. Is stealing anything from a person right? Whether the theft is land, oil, diamonds, copper, gold, or something as small as a tootsie roll when it is taken without permission then the act is wrong. If anything is/was taken without consent then the acquisition was not right. This is the issue that the United Nations Conference on Racism is trying to deal with. America and all other nations of the world should be there. The God of justice demands our presence. President Obama, your calling is to be the change agent. Don’t let politics taint your calling. The world has been waiting for you. You must engage all players in the world about all the major issues. President Obama, I humbly say, on this one my brother, I believe you should have listened to the Congressional Black Caucus. America’s attendance would have helped the world to decrease the hate and increase the love. Thank you for listening to AjabuSpeaks.

I want to touch on one point that you addressed to Rev Ajabu concerning letting bygones be bygones. As Rev Ajabu so eloquently reminded you that it is strange that you who benefitted from the free labor of African slaves are now saying, "get over it.'
I believe in forgiveness to a certain extent but how can you move on when the oppressor is still oppressing. Blacks and Native Americans are still subject to the same racist oppression by the majority population in the United States. It is one thing to let it go but the perpetrators are still keeping the masses of Blacks and Natives in poverty and decadence.
Jesus said, you can't serve two masters, you have to love one and HATE the other. You have to hate those who would brutalize His children. When Jesus confronted Herod, he never said a mumbling word but he spoke to the Pilot and the Sanhedron[spelling] Council but he did not answer Herod. There are some ruthless and brutal individuals who are so repulsive that even Jesus will not talk with them.
The Whites who destroyed and are continuing to devastate the Blacks in this country are no different than a Demon like old King Herod. Dawn your point is so hollow given the perpetual nature of the beasts who devour the masses of Blacks in America. We never recovered from Slavery because the beasts is still devouring. It is impossible to forget getting stabbed by someone who is still sticking it to you.
God said, "Go down Moses, way down in Egypt land and tell old Pharoah to let my people go. And you know what happened to Pharoah. Today's Pharoah is under judgment right now. It is just a matter of time. Dawn, take a lesson from Pilot and wash your hands of these innocent Black people and Native Americans who have been condemned by a ruthless modern day Pharoah. Come out from among them and be ye separate. God is not playing with America.
It is really too late for reparations, your time is up here.
marshall
Marshall,
I am an Indian and a woman who was molested. I already told you that. All you see is that I look white, because I am half white, and so I am a white oppressor. But Jesus really didn't care much that I suffered. The suffering was the result of the original sin. Actually, he cared....that's not true. He cares about all of it. But he was with me through all of it. Just as he has been with my daughter through hers. And we have overcome that. And guess what, John, the sin won't end until Jesus comes again. And the judgement hasn't begun.
You have missed out on so much of the message, John. You might want to start at the beginning?
Your job is not judge, jury and executioner. Your job is feed, clothe and tend. You're supposed to be living this life loving your God with all your heart and all your might and all your strength.....and loving your neighbor. No offense, but I'm not seeing the love. I see anger and not much else.
Dear Sister Dawn,
My post was written to simply correct your erroneous viewpoint that God does not punish groups of people. I cited examples in the Bible from the "Old" and "New" Testament that I thought you would be familiar with. Actually, the careful student of the Bible will tell you that the "Old" Testament contains many prophecies, yet to be fulfilled, that describe God destroying groups of people.
You chose to not only ignore the examples cited, you imply I am only reading one part of the Scriptures.
I closed my post by agreeing with you about judging others - that judgement belongs to God. None of us have the right to judge another.
Yet again, you accuse me of judging you. Nothing could be further from the truth. I don't know you, but felt that is was important to point your error.
As for God "knowing His people", isn't it obvious to you that God has, as Jesus put it to the Israelites, "your house is abandoned to you."
Let's re-cap: The Israelites, the people of God, killed the Son of God, their capital city Jerusalem was destroyed along with the temple and their geneological records. The survivors were scattered all over the Roman empire.
2,000 years later some people who claim that they are Jews are aided and abeted by the USA and Britain to establish the State of Israel. Force the indigenous people off the land, kill any who resist, label these people as "terrorists", push them into concentration camps, deny them a government they elected, deny them free passage in their own land, deny them their day in court over the issue of land ownership, and the beat goes on, etc.
Finally, the State of Israel depends on the USA for survival, not Almighty God. Doesn't that tell you something Dawn?
If the State of Israel were supported by the Almighty God, who always fought their battles and frowned on their relying on any other nation, why would they need help from the USA to survive since their creation? To any reasonable person it should be obvious: The State of Israel is a fraud and a sham.
Finally, I find it difficult to believe that you paint me as a 'racist' and that I 'hate Israel'.
Again, neither statement is true. Thus, your accusations are false.
Furthermore, you seem determined to skirt the real issues you yourself raise, even when they are challenged with Scripture, logic and common sense.
Like the Jewish religious leaders who were incapable of recognizing the Messiah when they saw him, you seem incapable of recognizing truth when you see it.
Dawn, prayer would be the first avenue of assistance I would recommend to you. Ask the Almighty to open you heart to reason and balance. Failing that, sometimes seeking professional help can assist in re-adjusting our ability think straight.
Still your Christian brother, Wes
Wes,
No one can have as much animosity in their heart as you possess and have a relationship with the lamb. You hate Europeans, you hate Israel. It's pretty obvious.
I suggest that you need to start attending a different kind of church. One that is less political and significantly more scriptural.
That's really obvious, too.
Dawn,
There goes your attitude again. You don't know Wes!! If you did there would be now way that you would accuse him of hating anyone, let alone white people and Israel. Surely Wes hates oppression. I would go as far as to say he probably hates oppression while still have the loving capacity to love the oppressor. You speak from a very arrogant position. How is it that you know what everone should do? You are again using yourself and your thinking to be the yardstick that everyone else should take their measure. Dawn, I hate to let you in on a little secret, you are not that important. Most people that read this website, I would imagine follow Jesus. I am sure that some Muslims reading this website follow Allah. I am about willing to bet that very few, if any, follow Dawn. My sister, you have to realize that you give off an air of traditional white being supreme attitude. Yes, you have some native American in you. However, your writings do not embrace, or reveal native American attitude. You come off as a white person who see herself as being supreme to all others, until they embrace your white supremacy. Is this what you are trying to do? Is this the person that you want us to know you as? If not, then check yourself. Stop pointing out the twig in others' eye when everyone sees the big ol' log in your's. It is tragic that you and your daughter were both molested. We can sympathize with you on that one. However, just because this tragedy is in your experience it does not make you an expert, or god, so that we have to succumb to your advice on how we should deal with the tragedies in our life. Quit trying to divide people, and exude people to come to your position that is very offensive to most of the people that read this blog. Hundreds of people regularly visit this website. Few, if any, would use you to take a measure on how they should live their life. I hope I am communicating. God bless.
Wes,
Went back over your prior post.
Not a single New Testament reference in the lot.
Your arguments sound anti-semitic. The Jews have also lost property rights all over the world...and worse. They have been persecuted by nearly every world society. To say that the Jews murdered Jesus is about as intelligent as saying that Christians are murderous because the Crusades were conducted by people who called themselves Christians. This might shock you, but Christ's death was part of God's plan. I know that your Bible knowledge is heavily skewed by your hatred, but it's a fact. It was going to happen. The shedding of Christ's blood was foretold. Lucky for us.
Humans are humans. There are horrific acts being conducted by all races all over the world. Right at this minute. Even by Africans and Arabs. There is only one answer. Reconciliation.
Do I wish that after World War II that people had paid more attention to the indigenous cultures of the region that became Israel? Yes. Do I think that it was racism that led to the establishment of that state in that place? Well, I think that people who are more nomadic are more likely victims of that kind of situation....much like the American Indians, my ancestors, were. Perhaps it is racism, perhaps it is a different cultural viewpoint about property rights. I also think that people felt as though the land had some history that made it a likely choice.
You need to re-read the New Testament and think to yourself,
"Would Jesus seek retribution or reconciliation?"
You know the answer and so do I.
And if you don't agree, you might need a new spiritual leader...and a fresh read on the life of Jesus Christ.
Matthew 5 43:47
Ye have heard that it hath been said, thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
But I say to you, love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you and pray for them which despitefully use you and persecute you
That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the Evil AND on the good, and sendeth rain on the just AND on the unjust.
For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? Do not even the Publicans the same?
And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? Do not even the Publicans so?"

This is a story of a man who is the head of a ministry I support in Indianapolis, who attends my former church.
He is a model of forgiveness and reconciliation to me. This story helped me forgive my abuser and helped me move into a closer relationship with God.
Matthew 5 43:47; "Ye have heard that it hath been said, thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
Do not even the Publicans the same?"
My Dear Sister Dawn,
As our Lord Jesus said while dying on the torture stake for all of us, "Father, I forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." - Luke 23:34.
Sister, it is clear that your willingness to reason is limited, thus you know not of what you speak. Here is small test. Who do you think was guilty of killing our Lord - Pontius Pilate or the Jewish religious leaders?
One only has to read Luke 23:13-25 to ascertain where the guilt belongs. The unresaonable might miss the point, but it is what it is.
Still, I love you as a sister, although a bit unreasonable. Peace and love, your brother, Wes
Disgusted Conservative Christian, sorry I do not know your name. It is an honor to have someone respond with a servants heart. Yes, there are many opportunities for helping at Horizon House. If you could email me at
(luwannajennings@hotmail.com) I would love to share some areas as well as to give a brief overview about what we are seeking to accomplish and how. I look forward to hearing from you. (I will add, God used Horizon House to help me years ago, I now understand why).
God bless.
Wes, David
It is so frustrating to debate with someone like Dawn who does not stay on point and is using herself as the standard by which all are judged.
Obviously, she is supportive of some of the most ruthless oppressors historically and currently as she always finds some excuse for them in the Bible. She is calling herself a Christian Conservative and that crowd is mostly Republican, the party of Cheney and Bush. [Real ruthless oppressors]She has so much to say but she loses us with her twisted logic.
I must admit that Dawn has toned down some because she was getting so personal in her statements with me. She acts like she knows me just from the blog. For example, just because I own a newspaper, she assumed that I gave up my medical practice to do the newspaper. That paper is only published monthly and I have a staff who does it. But Dawn jumps to conclusions with very limited data as she did in my case.
Good luck to both of you as you debate this woman who appears to suffer with very loose associations in her deliberations.
Marshall
You know I love Paul Saulus; God told him to instruct us not to get up in words. This thing about right and wrong. If it is not God's way it is wrong. But because of God's nature what seems right or wrong is purposeful. Yes, all wrong is and can be corrected. In Romans 8:28, the Bible says, God works ALL things together for good to those who love Him and are called according to His purposes. And the book of Revelations clearly states that we win. Is this not complete justice. Does not God glorify Himself in our sins being made less through the blood of Jesus until whcih time we are presented to Him blameless? The issue about groups and accountability. I totally agree that groups are not held accountable for the deeds or words of all; each person is individually held accountable for their actions, thoughts, and words, the Bible is very clear. 2 Corinthians 5:10>>>> International Standard Version (©2008)
For all of us must appear before the judgment seat of the Messiah, so that EACH of us may receive what HE deserves for what HE has done in HIS body, whether good or worthless.
So it is, I may be in a group who is functioning in a immoral way, however it may be my purpose to be a voice for those they are seeking to hurt. Not all people in groups have the same agenda; I mean look at our President, he is not responsible for the thoughts or deeds of those who seek to go against him. The prophets who had to go into capitivity along with the Israelites were not held accountable for their disobedience to God. God uses whomever to speak a word or carry our His divine will. So, Dawn you are correct, the whole group is not held accountable for the workings of individuals in the group. You know, it appears some of us are not very clear concerning who we say we are. With all do respect a person can see another persons heart. The Bible says we can judge all things through the spirit as well as out of the mouth flow the issues of life. Every time I open my mouth, write or express my thoughts verbally, I am allowing others to see my heart, if I am being true. For those of us who are believers, our dictrine is very clear about this.
I will leave you all with this:
2 Timothy 2:15
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
May the Lord bless you all.
Wes,
You seem to think that God did not intend the death of his son. Christ was born with that intent. It was God's greatest gift to man to sacrifice the lamb. Jews did not kill Jesus, it was your sin and mine that killed him, Wes.
John, the truth is, you have spent way too much of your life spreading hate.
People have different spiritual gifts. One of the gifts that I have is the ability to have "feelings" about the state of a person's heart. I have been able to capitalize on this in my career as an HR person. I don't claim to be free of sin, but I do claim to have a unique ability to evaluate character. You are a very unhappy and unforgiving person. Your writings scream it. Your newspaper screams it. Your blogging screams it. It really doesn't matter what your race is, in the long run. What matters is your heart. The covering is irrelevant.
Do I forgive people for human errors? Yes, I do. People make mistakes in judgement. But a mistake in judgement is not the same as a heart filled with hate.
God says not that the world will be inherited by the oppressed and angry. He says, "Blessed are the MEEK. Blessed are the Merciful. Blessed are the peacemakers."
President Obama is a peacemaker. I believe that Pastor Benjamin is a peacemaker. My pastor is a peacemaker. Evil is best fought by good.
Titus 3 2:6
To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, showing all meekness unto all men.
For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and fating one another.
but after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared.
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour.
Continuing on in verse 9...
But avoid foolish questions and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.
Reverend Ajabu is right that party politics is harmful. I think that he is really wrong about economics, but I will allow that his candidate won the election. I think his candidate deserves a chance. I don't think that putting taxpayers into debt will help the economy. So I sit intellectually on the side of teapartiers who are asking the government to restrain the debt. They were peaceful protestors....unlike the recent protestors at UNC who threw bricks and disallowed a divergent opinion from being expressed.
I have said before. If President Obama, through his goodwill can forge a new peace with our enemies, I think he should try. But to paint these hate-filled people as heroes...the Chavez's, the Achmidinejads, the Kim Jong Ils, the Castros of the world....like many on the left are choosing to do....or to paint Israel as evil because the United Nations may have made a mistake years ago in how they were reestablished with a homeland...well, none of that will help bring peace. Peacemakers will bring peace. The kind of heart that I see in Obama will be an asset. It will be hard, because these leaders will continually slap his gestures of goodwill and also will be looking for his weakness as an opportunity to exploit him. I would not be surprised if we are attacked. These are not Christians. You can say what you will, but the Christian savior changed the paradigm and if a leader approaches with an outstretched hand, many will not understand it and will not know how to respond to it.
Reliving and rehashing past wrongs, retribution, retaliation....it all needs to stop. It won't. It was foretold. Just as Christ's sacrifice was foretold.
Your personal salvation does not depend on which party you agree with. It depends on loving one another and loving the Lord.
You're right John. I won't argue the politics with you. Ultimately, although I tend toward the conservative, I see people of love who are liberal and I know that they are God's children.
But your hate will may your downfall. Wes's hatred toward Israel may be his downfall. Ajabu's hatred of unknown "fatcats" may be his downfall. I have my own issues that I work on. I know what they are. They aren't hatred or racism. I do not try to deny my sins. I am a conservative. I have a tendency to seek "security". I know intellectually that security is not in worldly things. But I fight what I know. Most people would define me as generous, but it isn't "most people" I must please. I am dealing with my issues. Every day. With the help of the Lord.
But until you can look with an open heart at your own sin, you can't address it. We need to stop looking at fixing the sins of races and fixing the sins of governments. We need to fix the sins of ourselves individually.
http://www.cleveland.com/nation/index.ssf/2009/04/obama_administration_concerned.html
I spoke about this a few days ago. Those of you who advocate open borders and universal healthcare, you had better be willing to deal with the issue of a lack of providers. As the wife of a specialist, believe me when I tell you that the shortage of specialists is almost as bad as the shortage of primary care doctors.
Dawn Dawn
Your biggest downfall will be due to the fact that you do not know how limited you are intellectually. I know your husband is in medicine and so are many others including myself but how can you be the expert on the future of healthcare with your limited knowledge of the field. You don't suggest or make it known that it is an opinion, you sound so absolute in your positions.
Lets take a look at the future of healthcare in America. Medicine is in a decline just as the teachers declined. Even the lawyers are struggling in some areas. The reason for the decline is that teachers, doctors, and lawyers are not getting paid for their work commensurate with their credentials earned in the classroom.
If we pay these professionals, you will see a mass move into these areas. Right now we are filling those gaps with foreign born doctors just as we did when doctors were called to serve in Viet Nam. There are some Asian doctors who made a killing while American born doctors were called to the war.
Your limited information base will be your downfall and your irrational jump to conclusions using that minimal data will certainly be your undoing. The visitors to this blog along with Wes, David, Rev Ajabu and myself are able to see straight through your pseudo intellectual facade. You write extensively but it only reveals your profound lack of knowledge.
Your insistence on being a Conservative Christian is so telling. What actually are you conserving. We Blacks surely don't want to preserve all of the ruthless and brutal treatment by your Conservative Christians visited upon us. The American people voted out the conservative christians because we have had enough of your brand. The Republican Party [ where most of your christian conservatives reside] is shrinking and are become the laughing stocks of the whole world. Yet, you cling to these haters of all minorities and their desire to remain a monochromatic and homogeneous clan who have circled their small wagon train. As a half Native American, you must know that you are not welcome there. You need to join the rest of us who make up the true representation of America, the Democratic Party. You need to come home before they run you out of their whites only club.
Before I forget, you have reduced me to just a hater; and you are partially right. I do hate seeing 60 million Americans unable to have access to medical care, the huge jobless rate that began under George Bush, an unjust war in Iraq, the American schools are behind most of the industrialized world, the Republicans sniping at President Obama while he cleans up after them and Bush; I could go on and on.
Instead of calling me a hater, why don't you call me a liar if I am not telling the truth. You can't do it.
Wes, David, Rev and others, I think it is time to shut Dawn down because we need to elevate the intellectual level of this blog. So Dawn please just HUSH, do more listening and then come back better informed.
Your Christian Ultra Liberal Democrat
john
John,
I think that it is you who have the limited information about healthcare.
I have been a benefits manager for over 20 years. Where you see the perspective of the provider, I see the perspective of the provider, the person who who is seeing the perspective of the worker paying the bill, and also the insurer who must manage the costs.
There will not be an increase in providers because there will not be additional money going into the system. This might surprise you. Perhaps they don't have good news coverage in Americus. We are going to have a 4 trillion dollar debt before healthcare reform.
The demographics of the country are this. We have a smaller group of people following the boomer generation. We have a huge number of doctors getting ready to retire, leaving an even larger deficit. The younger generation is not willing to put in the hours that my husband's generation has put in. There is a larger number of females in the medical workforce, and as the primary caregivers of their children, they will not work the hours.
This is going to surprise you too, John. We have the same problem in teaching. Half of the teachers currently working are retiring within the next decade.
The country is in economic decline and there is no additional money for healthcare. Even if we funded this through additional deficit spending, it will take over 15 years to put the people in place to provide the necessary coverage.
The only way to make it work would be to have lots and lots of paraprofessionals put in place. With a much heavier use of nurse practitioners and and CNPs, we could plug the shortage of physicians, but let's face it. The quality would not be the same. Furthermore, nursing schools are having the same problem as medical schools in that there are not enough qualified teaching professionals in the schools to significantly raise the numbers of people in training. There is no magic fix to this. Research this. I am telling the truth. I can link you to reports that verify what I am saying.
John, please don't talk about more things that you are so ignorant about. I am a top 10 graduate of a top 10 business school. I am Master's educated. I have 25 years of professional experience, 10 years of which were with a major medical system in Indiana (Methodist Hospital/now Clarian). I have senior level HR certification.
You have worked as a small town doc and you aren't even Board certified. Perhaps it is time that you listened more and pontificated less.
I won't say that you aren't telling the truth, John. I am sure you believe what you say. I am sure you are telling the truth as you know it. Your knowledge base is inadequate, however.
You continuously stoop to insults. Intellectually limited. Right. This from the "doctor" who never passed his Boards. I passed mine.

Here, John, I'll help you out a little.
http://radiology.rsnajnls.org/cgi/content/full/227/1/5
I think that this is another interesting article that scratches the surface about how universal healthcare will change healthcare as we know it. It is obvious that we cannot sustain the kind of increases in cost that the insured population of the country is experiencing due to medical inflation with improving technology. Consequently, we face some sort of rationing. If we add the uninsured, we are spreading the same resources further, requiring even deeper rationing.
Ultimately, a two tiered system is the likely outcome...a foundational plan with a buy-up option for those who choose to pay for it.
But the fundamental question remains. How will we make rationing decisions, knowing that we simply do not have the providers in the system to service universal coverage? These are tough questions, not easily made by bureaucrats.
Tom Daschle understood these issues and was loudly lambasted by the richest and most powerful group of Americans....senior citizens....who reject the idea of rationing on the basis of age and other demographic factors.
But he's right.
One thing's for sure. You need to get yourself as healthy as you can. John, you need to drop that gut and get on a treadmill. If you smoke or drink heavily, you will need to stop. Because if universal healthcare is adopted, you will have less care. It is inevitable. Every industrialized nation in the world that is employing universal coverage uses less care than the U.S.
I did my three miles on the treadmill this morning. I don't smoke or drink. I eat right and don't carry ANY extra weight. All of us will need to live like this to be able to endure the cost of universal access and deal with the rationing of resources that will result. If you aren't willing to make the lifestyle changes to support better health, you should have to pay a penalty for your choices. We can't afford people's excuses for lazy living anymore.
Dawn
You always leave yourself open when you try to attack things that you have limited or no knowledge about. You said on this blog that because I publish a newspaper, I have stopped practicing medicine and that I wasted a good seat in medical school. My dear Dawn, I have been practicing for 23 years and still going.
Again, you could not possibly know whether I have ever passed the Family Practice Board, I was Board Certified in 1990.
Just as you spout off your credentials to try and claim some credibility, you are very flaky and abrupt with your statements on this blog. If you did obtain all of those degrees and credentials, it is not revealed in your disjointed and unimpressive ideas that are put on this blog.
Just because I got my Boards in 1990 does not mean that I am better than a doctor who never was Board Certified. I have a pediatrician in this town who never got her Boards but the OB-GYN's scramble to have her take care of their newborns rather than any one of the three board certified pediatricians on staff at our local hospital. She is one of the best pediatricians that I have ever worked with.
Dawn, you have been incorporated into the White superiority mindset instead of examining each individual whether credentialed, Black, White, Hispanic, Asian, etc. You open yourself up to so much ridicule when you try to label and even condemn someone because they don't fit the American standards.
We have so much evidence of advantages that the well connected get when it comes to these stupid specialty boards. We know how many students who have connections end up with high scores that they did not truly earn.
I said all that to say to you Ms Dawn, how do we know that you got those credentials honestly. You can put the same question to me. And even if we both obtained our Boards credibly it does not mean you are a good "whatever" you are suppose to be. I know you know some professionals with all of the credentials that they are suppose to have and they are the worst doctor, lawyer, teacher, accountant, etc. How do we know you are not one of these.
Finally, you must know the person with whom you are dealing and for God's sake don't judge them on a degree from a college or on their ability to pass a specialty board.
The record is replete with Board Certified doctors who are killing patients because what they have on paper doesn't always translate into a highly qualified doctor. Some of these scoundrels are drug addicts and are psychotic but he or she is a board certified drunk or dope addict.
Like I said in my last statement, Dawn please HUSH for a minute and get more information.
John
Board Certified in 1990
John,
If you are Board certified, why does it not say so on the websites where patients can check it? You might want to check that out because it says that you are NOT board certified.
For your own sake, you might want to look into that.
Board certification is not for you, John, it's for your patients.
And although I agree that there are good and bad doctors who are Board Certified, it is one of the few things that a patient can look to to determine whether you are qualified enough to pass an exam that indicates that you have acquired a certain "Body of Knowledge".
And you are a pompous ass, by the way.
Oh,
and as far as staying on task is concerned...the topic was about how to address the significant shortage of providers before they try to implement national health care. Of course since your idiotic off the cuff comment that increasing payments to doctors would increase supply was pretty easily refuted, you had to jump to something else.
I searched the ABMS Boards again thinking perhaps that your attained certification in a state other than Georgia. They don't show you certified in the U.S. You seriously might want to look into this, if in fact, you did pass your Boards.
I know how hard it is to pass Boards. My husband spent the better part of a year studying for his writtens and orals. Don't even consider denigrating that credential. It's offensive and disingenuous.
If you would like to check my certification, please feel free.

I have the SPHR certification, the highest certification possible in my profession. I took a written test on a computer on subject matter contained in 6 areas of HR knowledge. You must also have at least 2 years of Senior Level (verified) HR experience to qualify to sit for the exam. Approximately 1/2 of the professionals who sit for the exam pass.
This message is for Dawn. Hello, you expressed an interest in opportunities to serve. Most imparticularly Horizon House. I had hoped to hear from you. I would like to maybe meet for coffee or tea. My email address is listed at the bottom, but in just in case it is (luwannajennings@hotmail.com). I think you would be a great candidate for helping us at Horizon House as we continue to meet the needs of our homeless and abused neighbors; this I feel as I sense your understanding for urgency for healing and passion for justice in a Godly manner. I facilitate a Women's Support Group at Horizon House, we meet every Thursday from 12:30 -2pm. I would be honored if you could come. The address is 1033 E. Washington; phone number is 423-8909. I am also on the Board of Directors. So, I look forward to hearing from you.
God bless.
Dawn, I am re-reading your comments and responses, we have so much in common when it comes to personal experiences, professional views and what brought us to Christ. I do not think anything happens by accident. I think it is imperative that we meet. This blog is a forum used to bring social issues to the forefront. However to me the most important aspect is that this is an avenue by which God can be glorified. Again, I look forward to hearing back from you; soon I hope.
God bless.
Dawn Dawn
Your comment was that I did not pass my specialty board and my answer was that I passed that board in 1990. Our board recertifies every seven years and you can take it or not. I am board eligible for another cycle.
Again, I have some colleagues that are either boarded or not and trust me, the patients will not be able to rely on someone taking that test.
Just like all tests in this country, it is who you know and all candidates may not be good at test taking. We have some high school students who are straight A students who could not pass their graduation test. These good minds are devastated because they can't do well on those test. It was Bush who put more pressure on those kids with his "leave no child behind." The teachers and the students are teaching and learning the test instead of learning how to think. Another failure of the Bush administration. I looked in the eyes of a 3rd grader who was so ashamed, devastated and embarrassed about failing the CRCT 3rd grade test by a small margin.
Even though I got my boards in 1990, I still don't hold those things in high regard because I know too many patients who have been killed by board certified doctors. If you are honest you would acknowledge that. You put so much faith in these White dominated tests that are mainly designed to remove minorities from the competition. What is so diabolical is the cheating that goes on in favor of White candidates. They can even get the test from insiders.
I passed that stupid board but I refuse to look down on those who never passed it. I told you how good one of my local pediatricians is as compared to the board certified peds down here. Human beings can't always be measured by the standards of a bias and racist White American system We Blacks have suffered long under the oppressive and unfair practices in this country. What makes you think we would put any faith in the institutions set up by the majority community.
You see how easily you can get us off subject because of your elitist and "better than mentality" as you associate with the so-called Christian Conservatives[ mostly Republicans]. They are the most racist and rabid haters in America. Because you are not a pure Anglo-Saxon White, you just might be kicked out of the Whites only Klan. Come home to the Democrats so you can see somebody who looks like you.
John
John,
I don't identify primarily by party. That's your deal.
And as far as Board Certification is concerned, I have a different perspective. There are good studies that show validity of those tests in the aggregate. That is not to say that they are 100% reliable. But they are valid. You are more likely to have a doctor who knows his or her body of knowledge of their specialty if they are Board certified. All that it tests is subject matter...at least on the writtens. Not always so on the orals. From my experience with Radiology orals, some very smart doctors do not do well in front of an oral examiner. And some of those examiners just love to show you how smart you AREN'T. My husband passed the first time, but he thought that he had failed. His examiner loved making that young country bumpkin feel stupid. But he passed.
Just because someone who is Board Certified can make a mistake does not make the test invalid. It means that person made a mistake. I guarantee that you have made mistakes in your career that could have (or maybe even did) result in someone dying or even having more trouble than they should. Every doctor has. If you know that many doctors KILLING people, you need to leave Georgia. For 20 years in practice, I don't think my husband can tell you that any of his colleagues have had a record of killing people. You totally exaggerate the extent of medical mistakes. I don't think that my husband knows a single "butcher" doctor. And he knows a lot of doctors.
But the statistics are quite clear on the differences in the records of Board Certified and non Board Certified doctors. Board Certified doctors, in the aggregate, are sued less often for medical mistakes. If you would like me to post that evidence, I'd be happy to.
Are there other factors that make a quality professional? Of course. Is this a good "first indicator"? Yes. Clealy and irrefutably.
I will tell you this, John. As long as there are leaders in Black leadership who teach their kids that the subject matter does not matter and that the tests are unfair, your kids will continue to fail at them. There are Black and racist White teachers all over this country, telling kids that the White Power people are setting up unfair tests that they are going to fail. So guess what. The kids decide that the education system does not matter. So they won't try. So they WILL fail.
I don't happen to believe that we need to scrap standards so that Blacks can be included. Guess what? I believe that Blacks CAN be included in the same standards.
I find it very hard to believe that you were Board Certified and let it expire, by the way. I can look into that, if you would like.
