Evan Bayh's Moderate Gambit

Evan Bayh’s Moderate Gambit

This week the Wall Street Journal printed an editorial by Indiana Senator Evan Bayh. Senator Bayh had organized several other “so called” moderate democratic senators to oppose President Obama’s budget request. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell the senator from Kentucky called Bayh’s editorial “insightful.” According to the Wall Street Journal when asked about the Republicans' praise of his op-ed article, Bayh said he doesn't have a problem if Republicans were "honestly agreeing with me," but he does if "they were just using my point of view to score cheap political points." Evan, you know both of these points are true. Why are you organizing democratic senators against the President? Why are you allowing yourself to be used to undermine his policies? And not only are you doing it personally, but you have organized other Senators so that they can be used to undermine the President. Let’s look at some of the stances of your members.

Nebraska Sen. Ben Nelson, one of the most conservative Democrats in the Senate said “I have major concerns about trying to raise taxes in the midst of a downturn of the economy.” “On the one hand, you’re trying to stimulate the economy. On the other hand, you’re trying to keep money from going into taxpayers’ pockets. It’s very difficult to make that logic work.” Senator Nelson’s position begs the question, on whom are the taxes being raised. The answer is that taxes will be raised on those who make $250,000 dollars or more per year. Senator Nelson sounds like Rush Limbaugh! Senator Bayh have you become a “ditto head?” You have stated publicly that you think that President Obama should slow down, don’t move too fast. This sounds so much like the Dixiecrats, who were nothing but democrats, in the south when we were fighting for passage of the 1964 voting rights bill. They were counseling the nation to slow down on giving Black people the vote; they didn’t want to move to fast. The issue then was race. The issue now is economics. It appears that you have sided with the rich at the expense of the poor.

Senator Bayh: I saw you in Elkhart, Indiana. You heard directly the pain that the economic downturn is causing in that city. Elkhart has the highest unemployment rate in the nation. A couple of weeks ago, food had to shipped in so they could feed their families. This wasn’t people starving in Zimbabwe, this is in your home state; the state of Indiana. Those people represent the least of these. Your present position is neglectful, and against the economically depressed people in Elkhart. If you agree with Sen. Ben Nelson then you agree to make the fat cats fatter, by cutting their taxes. If anyone can stand a tax increase it’s the fat cats. Even Jayson agrees with that. They have so much money that paying an increase in taxes is just another expense that has no effect on their ability to maintain their lifestyle. Raising the taxes on the wealthy will raise much needed revenue for the country. Senator Bayh: What are you doing? Are you mad because President Obama did not pick you for Vice? What is it? Surely you are not supporting to give to the fat cats at the expense of the poor, are you?

Senator Bayh, let me assure you that we here in Indiana have a very close eye on you. You are very popular here in Indiana, and you should know that Bart Peterson, the previous Mayor, was also popular in Indianapolis. The state legislature increased people’s property taxes that caused bills to be two and three times what they were previously. Bart in this climate raised the people’s income taxes by 65%. People were mad. Bart chose the city’s budget desires over the people’s ability to own their property. Bart found out that when you side with the rich in economically challenging times then the people will rise up and let you know that you are not that popular. Bart’s campaign coffers was millions while Ballard’s was a few thousand dollars. Still, the people rose up and defeated Bart. Senator, do not sleep on that lesson. You cannot take positions that hurt the people in Elkhart and the rest of the state and think your popularity will pull you through. You must know that you are being watched with a very critical eye. It would not be in your interest to undercut what President Obama is trying to do for the little people. Siding with the fat cats on Wall Street is more of the same. It is the people on Main Street that vote for you. Do not support the fat cats getting fatter. If you want to oppose the President then push for him to give the money directly to the people on Main Street. Let the people on Wall Street make their profit off of the people’s consumption on Main Street. Support the President not giving the banks or AIG one more dime. Give the money to Main Street. Our consumption will kick start the economy. It is time for a change. Indiana for the first time in a long time voted for change. Change is in the air. Surely you feel it. If not, you will. Thank you for listening to AjabuSpeaks.

That was an excellent statement to Sen Evan Bayh. He is creating a wedge in the Democratic Party that will lead to major setbacks. As the president is trying to save this country, we have Bayh undercutting him and making the Republicans gleeful. The last thing we need is division among Democrats. It is hard enough to fight the Southern Confederate formerly called Dixiecrats but to now have to fight the "ConservaDems", as Rachel Maddow calls them, certainly creates a serious problem.

I hope the people of Indiana and all of the states where these known 15 Democrats come from will put the heat on their asses. They have not given our president and the Democratic leadership enough time to solve the major economic problems. The plan to raise taxes on the rich is not so disturbing to the rich as it is to these non-rich advocates for the rich.

We will have a real struggle if Bayh and his fellow conservatives prevail. It is so hard for politicians to think of the people's needs before thinking of their own selfish political moves that can divide this Democratic Party and lead to all of us sinking. I could understand Bayh making this move after president Obama's plan has been given enough time to fail or succeed but to caucus a group of conservative Democrats this early could spell doom for the nation.

Well Rev, Sen Bayh is in your state. I believe in fighting anybody who is harmful to the masses. He sounds like a damn fool asking Obama to slow down when the crisis is so great and it demands quick action. What is suppose to happen if we slow down. Has Sen Bayh offered a clearly stated alternative to what the president has laid out. Anybody can cry about raising taxes on the rich and that has been the Republican's mantra; but how dumb does Bayh look singing that old Republican conservative song that produced this crisis in the first place.

I want to see the ratings drop for Bayh in Indiana and the people reject his divisive move to weaken the Obama administration and the Democratic party.

We should never forget that Sen. Bayh was the first to cave in to George W. Bush's war against Iraq.

A group of peace and justice activists occupied his office the day after the "shock and awe" invasion of Iraq began. I was with a group in Sen. Luger's office and another group occupied Sen. Bayh's office. We went to jail for our effort. Bayh and Luger should have been the ones thrown into the slammer, not us. They are supposed to represent the rule of law, not to break it. The most serious crime against humanity is pre-emptive war.

When Senator Bayh started making noises about running for president several years ago, I called
his office in Washington D.C.. I told his secretary that if he ran for president, I would obtain his speech that was televised in the Rose Garden of the White House in which he stated that he would vote for the illegal and immoral invasion of the soverign nation of Iraq.

I told his secretary that I would take that image of him next to George W. Bush with his thumbs up about going to war for a lie that destabalized the entire family of nations. I asked her to google my name to demonstrate that I was willing to go after this wolf in sheep's clothing into every community that he was about to sell himself as a future president, just as I was protesting George W. Bush throughout the USA. He withdrew his bid the next week.

I do not believe in hate, but I will never stop pointing out those the actions of those crimminals that would sacrifice our troops blood and our taxpayers money into the bottomless pit of war for a Pax Americana.

One million dead Iraqi citizens later and about 5,000 of our troops and at a cost of trillions of US dollars that directly destablized the US economy was s direct result of Sen. Bahy's decision to go to war. Soon, other Democrats followed his lead after his infamous statements in the Rose Garden.

Sen. Bayh is a member of the Bilderburg group that meets every year to make decisions about what is good for the citizens of the world. This elitist group of the super rich and powerful wish to continue their goal of the neo-con efforts to control the entire planet.

Trickle down is Senator Bayh's modus operandi instead of President Barak Obama's Bottom Up approach to recovery and stablizing our nation.

We should never be suprised about which side of history Sen. Bayh is standing. In his case, the apple did not fall close to the tree of his father who was a good and honorable man.

Well said,

Bayh is once again making his failed polices seem to be 'new.'
Lest we forget his policy on NAFTA and 'free trade'

Let us never forget his is not in any real sense a Democrat, at least socially.

Evan Bayh is a great disappointment to all liberal Demos everywhere. Why is he betraying us? I think it is the old "sour grapes" of the children of my generation (1940's)! I can hardly wait for the next ELECTION!!!!!Maybe he can run for leader in Iraq.

I think that Senator Bayh thinks that people in Indiana are asleep. He goes and organizes with people who call themselves democrats but you can't tell any difference in their position from the Rush Limbaugh stance. When did moderate equate to conservative? This is not good!! Does he think he can tell people in Indiana anything? He better understand that there is more than corn in Indiana. There are elections held in Indiana. It time for a change. He can either ride the crest of the change, by supporting President Obama, or he can get caught up in the currents of the change and drown with those who oppose the President. Time will tell whether he rides or drowns. God bless you all.

Rev. Ajabu-
Thanks you for mentioning me in this week's article, I feel honored, and a tear has come to my eye. But, let me clarify..

I don't think families that earn $250k are "fat cats". Many are professionals, or business owners who actually produce jobs, or have people hired under them to support them. Many have organizations that in turn, hire other business entities to support their projects. Many are managing young businesses, just starting to take off.

Sure, they can pay their taxes, but many of them have no "guaranteed" income- they are risk-takers who sacrifice their time or risk their own capital to earn a higher standard of living.
When you tax them more- they spend less.
Money spent by these people goes into our economy much more efficiently than it does when it goes to the Federal Gov't first.
Barely 20 cents on the dollar gets back to the citizens when it goes to Washington.

Taxing them, will be a drag on our economy...and slow any recovery that may occur.
That in turn, means lower revenues back to the Fed Govt....bad decision. It seems taxing the rich here is more about a punishment...than anything else. You talk about Elkhart Indiana--- They make RVs and Boats, and Vacation homes up there. John Marshall-- try to use all your power to figure out who buys those.
You say trickle down doesnt work, try giving a poor person some money, and go see if they buy an RV, or a Boat. Why did Obama go to Elkhart Indiana???

Evan Bayh- I think he has you hood-winked. he's protecting his re-election.
Indiana is still very conservative, he has leaned very left here and knows he can't be lumped in with the leftist Obamas if he wants to keep his seat. His phones are burning with some very angry conservatives and moderates who voted for him. Lose them, and he's out...which is fine with me.

I think Evan Bayh symbolizes what we're up against in this State. Outrage that may not have enough political will behind it and not a clear answer to this problem. I am personally outraged that he can think health care can wait. Easy for him to say as his wife sits on the Board of WellPoint. Easy for him to say we're spending too much when he supported the Iraq war, and easy for him to say we're spending too much when Goldman Sachs was a major contributor to his campaign. I mean major. With $11 million in the bank - and more fundraising to come, we've got to do more than talk (which I'm guilty of doing here). So, we need a call to action - even though I'm not sure what the successful ratio of angry voices to dollars will have to be to win some more change in 2010.

Dear Minister Ajabu,
Many thanks for helping us to keep score. The remaking of America will require continued vigilance on the part of each of us. We must keep score as to who is on the side of working class people and who is against us. Beginning in 2010, we will be electing new members of Congress. Then we can express our displeasure for those who continue to be lackeys of the rich and powerful.

My brother, first we must also understand that what we are dealing with here are “career politicians”. Once upon a time, we had citizen office holders who served a term or two and then went back home. Today, we have people who start in high school preparing for a career in public service. They campaign as if they work for us, but once elected they demonstrate that they work for the rich and powerful.

Second, we see then despite the dire condition of the country, many of these politicians still have debts to pay to the rich and powerful. Thus, we see the insane opposition to President Obama’s sensible steps to save this nation by Republicans and “conservative” Democrats. They owe their allegience to the rich and powerful, not to those who elected them.

Third, these “career politicians” are betting that we will forget their misrepresenting the people and put them back in office. Even if not re-elected, they will have curried favor among the rich and powerful and usually end up on some Board of Directors of the rich and powerful. For proof, just go back and trace the career path of displaced "conservative" politicians. As lackeys of the rich and powerful, they continue on the payroll even when their political careers are over.

Fourth, the new American Revolution will not be complete until several election cycles are completed. By that time, let us pray honest "grassroots" citizens will run for office, be elected and bring balance to this nations’ relationship between commerce and government.

Finally, our President cannot accomplish the remaking of America alone. He needs the support and active involvement of each one of us who envision a country "of the people, by the people and for the people”, especially now, when the nation is in crisis. He has recently sent out a call for our support.

Will we respond or sit on our hands, as usual?
I am hoping Americans are now paying attention to the store and are determined to take control of their government with the help of people like you,

Minister Ajabu. Please continue help us keep score, at the federal, state and local levels so that when these people run for re-election we can make an informed choice. Again, thank you, my brother.
Yes we can!

the comments from the article below are well put:
'Message to Bayh and company - the DLC is history. If you truly want to be practical and move the country forward, disband and support the president.'

The time has come for you Evan to ask yourself: is there anything more important than Susan's stock options and your political ambition?

Evan, from here in Indiana it does not look like it, so it is time for you to go.
No more chances, the golden boy turned himself to stone through greed and ambition.

I want to thank Allison, Wes, and Tony for enlightening me on Sen Bayh. He is taking a big political gamble going up against a popular president like Obama. That stock market is still going up and I pray it will continue. Politics is a dirty business and if you are not prepared to have your past political moves exposed, you had better sit down and shut up. Evan Bayh has opened up dialogue on his past and his wife's. He will pay a serious price even with his own conservatives in Indiana who are trying to survive this economic meltdown.

Even Jayson sounds more intelligent and calm in his statements. I don't really know who buys those boats and Winnebagos but they all don't make $250,000 a year. I would imagine the middle class workers like those from GM and the auto industry and many Americans who worked hard and accumulated some retirement money; would purchase boats and Winnebagos during their retirement.

Jayson, you like to do research, check out those facts. The poor may not by those items from Elkhart but they buy a lot of stuff and that bolsters our economy.

Finally, the tax increases under Clinton led to the most prosperous period in modern times. The Obama tax increases are going to be at the same level as the Clinton taxes. Furthermore, president Obama is doing something special for small businesses to keep them from being harmed. Our president is on the right track given the options left by the Jayson Republicans. George Bush is the worst president since Herbert Hoover and I cannot get Jayson to admit that. The reason why Obama has such a high mountain to climb is because of the Bush and the Republican's failed policies that he inherited.

I feel so much better with Democrats in control of our nation because their track record has been good for America; maybe Carter is the exception.

One British observer said after the November election, "It is so good to see an intelligent president of the United States." It is hard to progress with an ignorant and arrogant president like George Bush.

John Marshall,

I think Bayh is overplaying his hand. He appears to be choosing his political career over the interest of the people he represents. This is business as usual. It is time for a change. That wind is blowing across the nation, even here in Indiana. Senator Bayh would be wise to feel the breeze. God bless.

Minister Ajabu,
For your and your readers information, I am challenging Rachel Maddow of MSNBC in the memo below:

Dear Rachel,
Love your show. Watch it every night for the realistic update on what is happening in the mad world of politics. Please keep up the fine work. We love you.

Rachel, how did we get into this global meltdown mess? This is the elephant in the room that no one seems to be willing to acknowledge. Even President Obama said on the Leno Show when explaining how this financial crisis developed that “everything that was done, was done legally.”

Now, The President did not elaborate on that statement, Leno failed to ask about the statement and the media did not pursue it either. I think someone should explain how we made it “legal” to financially rape America and threaten to cause a global financial meltdown?

Rachel, I believe you are the perfect person to educate and inform America on this issue. You have always been forthright as well as humorous as you help us simplify complex issues.

So, again, how was this mess created “legally”? Exactly who was involved in making it “legal”? In the interest of informing the American public, who has been hit hardest by this mess, would you please consider providing a chronological sequence of events that were taken to deregulate the financial world, allow capitalistic greed to run amok and “legally” allow the financial rape of the nation? I think we deserve to know the truth.

In addition to informing the American public, such an expose’ could quiet some of the partisan rhetoric we are hearing daily on Capital Hill. What we need today is serious, innovative ideas from our elected officials, not the daily “red herring” discussions about the President laughing on 60 Minutes. Or 10 minutes about his decision to skip the Gridiron Dinner to spend time with his family. Enough all ready!

To his credit, The President refuses to be drawn into these petty overreactions. But, Rachel, this kind of hysterical whining is not providing the American people with a sense of confidence that we are moving in the right direction. We need new ideas, proposals or innovative concepts for solving the worse crisis this country has faced since the Great Depression. Instead, this hysterical whining it is simply diverting attention away from the big question: Who got us into this mess? How did we get here? How do we get out of it? What can we do to make sure it never happens again?
You and I both know that some of those whining about the President’s proposed budget and deficit spending were behind the “legal” financial rape of America. If exposed, perhaps they will work harder to get us out of this mess instead of spending all their time trying instead of spending all their time trying to undermine efforts to save the nation?

Rachel, we are looking forward to your show tonight and every night. Keep up the good work.

Wes,

March 24, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterRev. Mmoja Ajabu

Seeking important truthful answers from Rachel Maddow,?? I'd like to say this is a new low here, but it isn't....

It was made legal to "rape a nation"- when some party.....hmmm...which one?....came up with the great idea that home ownership was for everyone, no matter how much money they made (or didnt)- and BANKS where FORCED BY THE GOVERNMENT TO LOAN MONEY to people who couldn't pay it back.
Of course, that statement is based in fact, and therefore here it is meaningless.
ok, Pass the kookaid back to John Marshall.

You know when I read this I began to get angry. However, I asked myself what for? This is yet another opportunity for God to be glorified. So, I am shouting inside as I type my response. Sen. Bayh's attempt to undermine our President and to engage others in doing so is only the beginning of his own demise. Just a few short months ago Bayh was riding on Obama's coat tail hoping to become the Vice-President. In that, placing himself in agreement with the plan God has given Obama for America. Now when I looked closer I began to thank God for knowing the heart of man. God knew Bayh was a trap for not only this state but the nation. We must be careful about lifting people up because of who they are related to. One man's blessing can become distorted and become another man's curse. Evan Bayh was riding off of the love and loyalty people had toward his father (whom I am sure is turning over in his grave). The people trusted Evan as a result of his legacy. The Lord even blessed him as a result of his lineage. However, only to an extent. It should not be a surprise to us that Bayh has set himself in opposition to the needs of the people. What is surprising is we did not see it coming. Bayh is a reminder of the old way of doing things, which we need not forget. So, as change continues to progress we can be more appreciative and become more responsible in our choosing of politicians and being good stewards (not voitng according to aprty but principle). Did we not think the rich would seek to fight back? I mean, here the truth that has been around since the beginning of time has risen up, and those who did not believe are still deceiving themselves into thinking they can actually stop the inevitable. This is spiritual warfare. It has everything do with with the heart of man. God is exposing all of the evils in this world. He is letting unbelievers know Jesus (who is the truth) is real, while giving believers an opportunity to repent and get it right. But in order to do so we must know who our enemies are; thus God exposing Bayh and others. I agree that the "rich paying higher taxes being an expense that has no effect on their ability to maintain their lifestyles." However it is not about money, it is about being stripped of the power to continue to oppress others and the fear of cecoming what they hate (themselves). Marshall you mentioned Bayh seeking to divide, well be encouraged. Bayh can only do what he is allowed to do. We as believers must remain focused. God would not put Obama in office if He had not already planned for the challenges we would face. It is not the challenges or what those in opposition are doing but that we have faith in a God who always prevails. There are no setbacks here. Bayh has no power, we have all power. This is more than about our economy, it is "wrong thinking" trying to continue permeating the minds of us who are hopeful. Let's stay on the wall and like Goliath, watch this enemy be brought down. Now we can use our energies to be angry or we can began offering up the sacrifice of thanksgiving? I choose the latter.

The Bible says, " 13 Moses answered the people, "Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. 14 The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still."
God bless and strengthen your hearts.

You people just don't get it.

In approx 18-22 months, we will see staggering depression, and inflation like no one in this our generation has ever seen. Maybe not like in the 30's. But this will certainly be a Hoover, Rosevelt type of depression caused by massive overspending.

What got us into this mess was borrowing huge sums of money, and consuming it, and not saving it, and then not paying it back.

There is no credit left, as the American people's credit has basically been wiped out. Until private citizens put money back in "savings"- there is NO MONEY TO LEND-- you have to PRINT IT!

Obama thinks he can cover his tracks by talking about year-to-year deficits-- He is FOOLING YOU, be not referring to the national DEBT-- which is EXPLODING.

If we are going to recover from this, GOVERNMENT SPENDING HAS TO STOP GROWING.
Who in their right mind goes into enormous DEBT, and then GOES INTO MORE DEBT to get out of DEBT? Utter LUNACY!

When it comes to understanding how our economy works- you liberals are illiterate.

Poor Jayson

It is unbelievable that a Republican like Jayson could sit for 8 years and watch an idiot [George Bush] do all the stupid things that he did and now trying to accuse Obama of doing what Bush did. Where were you Jayson when "Bush squandered a huge surplus and lots of economic stability left by Democrat Bill Clinton. Were you watching when that fool cut taxes on the very very rich. He didn't stop there, this nut started two wars that was paid for by borrowed money. He didn't include the cost of those wars in his budget like Barack is doing, he hid the cost of the wars like he hid the dead bodies that were shipped back to America from the war zones.

President Obama is cleaning up after your president Bush. You call Barack a lunatic for spending money we don't have; well what choices did Bush leave him. That is why the word STIMULUS is used so often because all Obama can do is stimulate this Bush economy and pray it will jumpstart.

President Obama warned that we cannot just stand pat and let the situation deteriorate further. Sometimes I think that is what Jayson, Rush, Jindal,Fred Thompson and other anti Obama people really want and that is to see Barack fail. Because if he succeeds, the Republicans can pack up and go home for another 100 years.

Jayson, did Bush do anything wrong? I am waiting on you to critique the Bush years and let us know if he contributed to the tanking of the American economy. You know so much about Barack who has only served 60 days but you are mum on that idiot who you have watched for 8 years. Your silence shouts from the house tops that you truly know Bush is responsible for the fall of American and has given president Obama one hell of a mountain to climb. We know that Obama can do it if those Republican losers will shut up and watch an intelligent professional show them how it is done

You didn't answer my questions. I guess Bush had the correct fiscal management and he showed us how money efficiently works in our economy. You might have expertise in how money works in this economy but what about your boy George Bush. You are doing more ducking than me because you have not said one thing about the Bush way of managing the nation's money.

The American people rejected your party and voted in mine. We are in control and if Obama succeeds,we will be in control for atleast another century.

You are laughing to keep from crying. Your party is in the minority and they ran this great nation into a deep ditch. You have no earthly reason to be laughing about anything. What is laughable is the Republicans in Congress telling the Democrats how to get America out of the hole that they put America in.

Who in his or her right mind would ask for their advice. Old drunk Boehner looks like a complete fool giving advice on what should be done to save the economy; an economy that he helped George Bush crash. What they need to do is go somewhere and sit their behinds down and hush. They had their time and now it is the Democrats time. This goes for you too, Jayson.

March 26, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJayson

Wow!! John, Jayson:

My brothers. I must jump in here. Why such sharp language? The country is on the heels of falling on its side and we are jumping on one another. This is not what the country needs. Now more than any time in our history this country needs to come together. We have to let our party affliations go. We have to support the President. The economy is in uncharted territory. A good argument can be made that the Bush policies put the economy in worse shape that what it was and has brought us to where we are. It also can be argued that President Obama's economic policy might not turn the economy around because nobody knows. The country's economy has never in history been at this point before. Nobody really knows how to get out of it. Obviously, we can't keep on doing what was being done. To keep on doing what was being done will get us more of the same results. We better pray that the President's policies turns this economy around. If not, the country will be so weak that we will be ripe for invasion. This is not a joke. We must come together.

And Luwanna,

We will not come together by being still!! The scripture you quote is Exodus 14:14. That is Moses talking to the Isralites because he did not know what to do. He, along with the rest of the Israelites were scared to death. The Egyptian army was fast closing on them. The Egyptians had death and destruction of the Israelites on their mind. To have just stood there would have meant the slaughter of the Israelite men, women and children. If you read the very next verse you find that God tells Moses "Why do you cry out to me? Tell the Israelites to go forward." To fully understand Moses' instruction to the Israelites you must incorporate verse 15. We should only do nothing until we hear from God. In my opinion, in this situation, God has spoken. To be still and think doing nothing is going to bring us out of this mess is to mis-represent this pericope. Pericope is no more than a scriputural story. The whole story must be told. As President Obama has stated, doing nothing is not an option. God has spoken. It is time to move. I pray that as we move, God continues to order our steps. God bless.

Please give me your opinion of the Republican's plan to save the economy. They say it is a budget proposed by your Republicans that has no numbers, figures, or digits anywhere in those 19 pages. Old drunk Boehner had the nerve to go and do a press conference against the advice of the other Republicans like Eric Cantor. This idiot presented the Republican budget that is the laughing stock of the nation.

It is so funny that you can conclude so early that Barack's policies and actions will not work but you say nothing about your Republicans who got us in this mess in the first place.

You don't care which party is in control or who is in the White House is an ignorant statement when so many lives depend on who is calling the shots in that White House. Barack Obama will save your ass and a whole lot more of the conservative confederate Republicans who despise this good man.

I know yall are getting nervous as the stock market is rising and the housing starts are rising and there examples of banks that have been rescued. These Democrats know how to govern and their records are available for you to see but you continue to refuse to acknowledge the obvious. We are on the right path and this cungry wll be saved by the first Black president and with the help of brilliant liberal Democrats. You will understand it better by and by as the old Negro spiritual says.

Rev. Ajabu, occasionally you and I agree.
But clearly this president is Flunking Economics 101.

Why is it that "your side" cannot COMPREHEND, that that increasing our nation's debt by a number HIGHER THAN ALL PAST PRESIDENTS COMBINED will be of no consequence??

Both you and Marshall think that "Bush Policy" (which is simply your moniker for what you cannot even precisely name), solely created this mess??? That's ridiculous.--the two of you have blinders on and are delusional.

Promote intelligent discussion here Rev. Ajabu-- it's your Blog.

Most of what is promoted here is fanaticism, using the comments form angry leftists, baseless in fact, and lacking understanding of events that lead up to this crisis,- all to promote the demonization of anyone you classify as "wealthy".

Rev. Ajabu- You can't demonize and promote hate here, and expect to increase the love. I am being very serious. I'd like to promote intelligent discussion here- you people make it very difficult, your lack of facts makes your calling "Bush is a liar"- HYPOCRITICAL!

Jayson, Jayson,

Why do you see the statement of facts as an act of hate? It is a fact that it was on Bush's watch that the economy eroded to the position we find it in today. It's a fact that you are promoting more of Bush's policy as the way to get out of this mess. Bush's policy was to cut taxes on the rich and hope the money realized by the tax cut trickled down to the poor. It's a fact that if one does the same thing that caused the results and expects to change the result, then it is a fact that one is delusional. That's not hate. It's a fact. It is time for a change. President Obama is doing something different. Something different must be done if we want different results. I, and most of the rest of the country, wants different results. That is why we voted for a change. That is fact, not hate.

I couldn't have put it any more succinctly your response to Jayson. What Jayson does not do is show us how good George Bush was in those eight years. Give examples of how Bush did not flunk economics 101.If we took a poll today the average American would blame Bush for our economic crisis. The president takes the blame for it all because it happened on his watch.

How can you declare that president Obama flunked economics 101. He has only been in office 60 days. Are you telling us that the experts who advise Obama also flunked economics 101? President Obama is taking the learned advice of some of the best and the brightest minds that deal with the economy, education, health care, and energy. Why would you conclude prematurely that he and his team have flunked economics. At the same time you do not give us anything more that the same old Republican and George Bush tax cuts for the rich tactic. IT DID NOT WORK JAYSON. It didn't work for Reagan, Bush's daddy, nor Bush Jr. Like Rev Ajabu said, when you repeat the same act over and over again while expecting a different outcome is insanity.

Jayson, if Obama's economics is so misguided then give us what the Republicans think. Is it the same tax breaks for the rich? Beyond that is there anything that the Republicans would have us do? Did you see the first installment of the Republican budget introduced by Sen Boehner at a press conference. There was not one numerical figure in that document. Even a high school student would have presented a more respectable attempt at a budget for the entire United States of America. Imagine, a budget without any numbers. Do you think the Republicans passed economics 101?

Rev Ajabu and I do not hate the rich. Justlook at the abundance of evidence that clearly shows how many of the rich have sucked the blood of the poor. There are some who are rich who have given back or have earned what they acquired honestly and not at the expense of the poor and the uninformed. [Madoff] I will admit that I HATE anyone who steps on the backs of others to obtain the American dream. If you believe that the majority of these rich got wealthy by hard work and honest efforts, then you flunked Humanities 101. As I pointed out to you previously that Black people were abused and used to make Whites and Jews rich in America. We did not get paid for our labor and many non-Blacks were enriched. Do you agree that somebody got over like a fat rat? It left the Black masses in poverty ever since.

On the subject of Hate, the scripture reminds us that, "you can't serve two masters, you have to love one and HATE the other." There is a lot of evil in this world and we have to hate it, destroy it, and eliminate it. Hate, when used in its proper perspective, can be beneficial for the victims of perpetrators of evil acts. One example, to burn a Black man alive for being accused of looking at a White woman. Any human being on this planet would hate such an evil act. Likewise, there are cases where other ethnic groups were destroyed by evil men.

I must commend you, Jayson, as your statements are not replete with attacks and insulting comments but instead, you sound civil. Rev and I can appreciate those changes in your blog.
